The unusual aridity of the last weeks and months has led to extremely low water gauges along the whole River Rhine. As the forecast does not show any change the evolution of the gauges will be rather worse.
Although we already use optimized barges for those kind of situation there are nautical-technical constraints which do not allow further navigation under certain gauges:
Upper Rhine: Gauge KAUB under 40 cm / actual value = 57 cm
In the meantime there is no more danger of explosion at the scene of accident and controlled passages of barges are possible in both directions.
We will restart with our regular sailing schedule on Monday 7th.
Since last Thursday the passage of the scene of accident of the capsized TMS Waldhof is possible in a limited way for upstream traffic. Pushing units were allowed to pass since yesterday.
Downstream traffic will probably not be possible within the next 2 weeks, as it is too dangerous!!
The water authorities (WSA) in Bingen assume that the Rhine Barrier due to flood will be neutralized today.
Nevertheless the barrier due to the capsized tank barge near St. Goarshausen will continue.
A tank barge loaded with acid sulphur capsized near St. Goarshausen in the Middle Rhine Valley. 2 of the 4 crew members are still missed. The Rhine is currently locked.
This accident has no influence on any current sailing of our barges!
We will keep you informed!
